Since 2000 I have been working on a number of web based ventures with varying degrees of success, some still going strong today and others which have sadly passed into the cyberspace graveyard. Founding Mindcom in the search and affiliate marketing space I moved into building community websites, recently focusing all my attention on our question and answer website Blurtit.

Blurtit was three years old in June 09, and we’re pleased to report we broke 400,000 visits/day on the 29th June 09

Blurtit was first conceived in June 2006 and since then has been enjoying a steady growth in traffic. It’s my ambition to make Blurtit one of the leading question and answer websites on the internet building a massive database of knowledge for all to use.

Investing

Long Term: Value, Growth and Competitive Advantage

In the last 12 months (whilst the market fell off a cliff) I’ve been learning about investing in stocks and companies. My initial investments have been through pubic stock purchases making focused choices in a value/growth strategy aiming for long term holding. This has been very much influenced by the investment style of Graham and Buffett looking to buy stock with a strong management team (with a track record working for the investors), long term above average return on equity (and hence defensible competitive advantage) at a price well below intrinsic value.

Life Prior To My Web Addiction

Prior (to about 28 lbs!?) I worked as Trek Leader for Exodus, spending time trekking in the mountains of Nepal, Russia, Pakistan, Iran, Morocco, India and a few other countries.

This led on to working as Administrative and Logistics Officer for Merlin in Tajikistan. Merlin supported local health services by rehabilitating hospitals, providing laboratory equipment and programs to identify and treat diseases such as malaria & typhoid. If you ever have the chance to work for a stint in Humanitarian Aid I can’t recommend it enough.
